You may be worried that Swaledale and Arkengarthdale are somewhat inaccessible, due to the temporary closure of the B6270 between Grinton and Richmond. However, be reassured that all businesses and services in upper Swaledale and Arkengarthdale are functioning normally and welcoming tourists and anyone else who wants to visit!

There is a signed diversion over Grinton moor, which adds only a few minutes to the journey from Richmond - and the views as you drop down towards Swaledale more than make up for the extra time.

There is also the old road to Richmond, from Fremington, although the 2 miles towards Marrick from Fremington are a little narrow, with passing places. But still a lovely tranquil alternative to the main road.

And, of course, you can still reach upper Swaledale and Arkengarthdale from Hawes, over the Buttertubs, from Nateby, and from Leyburn.

So don't be put off by the road closure; the road will be finished in plenty of time for the Tour de France!
